Clinical Experience

This Clinical Skills Lab is a 3-day clinical rotation focusing on acute and non-acute pediatric forensic evaluation when concerns of child sexual abuse or sexual assault have been reported.  The rotation is based on the core components necessary to achieve best practice standards.

A developmental approach is used in assessing the child, examining the child, and formulating the treatment plan.  Learners will participate in a guided clinical rotation in a pediatric health care setting which provides the opportunity for forensic medical evaluation of the child.  Learners will also participate in clinical conferences where various pathophysiological and psychological processes encountered with the child and his/her family will be discussed.  Learners will explore relevant resources/research related to child sexual abuse and apply findings to individual cases.

Professional Requirements: You must hold an active, unrestricted license as an RN, Advanced Practice RN, MD, DO, or PA to take this course.  This course is intended for practitioners who will be performing hands-on Pediatric Medical Forensic Exams.
