Target Audience: 

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, physicians, and other health and legal professionals involved in the care of pediatric victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Statement of Need/Program Overview: 

This webinar will identify the functions of a CAC as well as discuss the different models of CAC's. The relationship between CAC's and MDT's will be discussed along with the critical elements needed for both to function. Essential resources and the sequential steps needed to develop a CAC will be explained.

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Discuss the advantages of a CAC in the evaluation of suspected child abuse.
  • Identify the characteristics of functional CAC and MDT's.
  • Summarize the essential steps needed to develop a CAC in Indian Country.

Presenter(s): 

Earl B. Sutherland, Jr., Ph.D., ABMP

Dr. Sutherland is a licensed psychologist who brings 40 years of professional experience working with children and families. In addition, he has worked with Native-American families suffering from trauma and abuse for 11 years. Dr. Sutherland is the Co-founder of Crown/N. Cheyenne CARE center, the first fully federally funded child advocacy center. Dr. Sutherland is on the board of directors at Children’s Alliance of Montana, a member of the Montana Native American DV Fatality Review team, and a diplomat for the American Board of Medical Psychology. Dr. Sutherland holds a Ph.D. in school/child psychology from the University of Virginia.
