Target Audience: 

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, physicians, and other health and legal professionals involved in the care of pediatric victims in a substance abuse environment.

Statement of Need/Program Overview: 

This webinar will discuss the health and social impact of toxic stress, including family substance abuse on children. Providers will learn how to identify ways that they and their community can change the trajectory of children exposed to toxic stress.

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Identify ways to change the trajectory of kids exposed to toxic stress.
  • Identify the health and social impact of toxic stress on children.

Dr. Deb Shropshire

Dr. Shropshire is a pediatrician with OU Children's Physicians in OKlahoma City. For the past 14 years she has provided health care to children in foster care through the local emergency foster shelter and the Fostering Hope clinic - a medical home - at OU Children's. She also serves as the medical director for Oklahoma DHS foster care and as the Deputy Director of Child Welfare Community Partnerships for Oklahoma DHS. She believes that by getting our arms around one generation of kids in foster care we will bring and end to the generational impact of child maltreatment.
