Target Audience:
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, physicians, and other health and legal professionals involved in the treatment and care of victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. You must also have completed the 40 hour classroom or online SANE training.

Tara Henry, MSN, FNP‐C, SANE‐A, SANE‐P
Tara Henry has 19 years of experience performing medical forensic examinations on patients reporting sexual and physical violence. She is a family nurse practitioner specializing in the area of forensic nursing. For the past 16 years she has provided medical‐forensic care to living and deceased patients affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse across the life span. Dual-board certified as a SANE-A and a SANE-P, she is a forensic nurse consultant at Forensic Nurse Services in Anchorage, AK. She also provides expert witness testimony in both superior and district courts throughout the State of Alaska regarding topics in forensic nursing, strangulation, sexual assault, domestic violence, and sex‐related homicide. In addition to being a forensic nurse, Ms. Henry works as a nurse practitioner in the emergency department of two Alaska Native‐owned hospitals. She travels throughout the United States providing domestic violence and sexual assault training and consultation services for health care providers; hospital administrators; State, Federal, and municipal law enforcement agencies; advocacy agencies; municipal and State prosecutors; and defense attorneys. In addition, she works with several Alaska Native‐owned hospitals providing sexual assault program evaluations, quality assurance and peer reviews, and contract clinical services for domestic violence, sexual assault, and sexual abuse cases.
Jennifer Meyer, BSN, RN, SANE-A, SANE-P
Jennifer Meyer has been a Registered Nurse for 14 years and a forensic nurse for the past 11 years. Dual-board certified as a SANE-A and SANE-P, she has a broad range of clinical experience specializing in both emergency nursing and forensic nursing. Currently she is the clinical nurse manager of Forensic Nursing Services of Providence (FNSP). FNSP sees all of the sexual assault patients for Anchorage and the Valley. She has also lived for 5 years in Bethel, Alaska. During her time in Bethel, she advanced to the assistant manager of the emergency department and lead clinician of the Sexual Assault Response Team. Ms. Meyer’s forensic nursing experience includes examining suspects and victims of pediatric sexual abuse, adolescent/adult sexual assault, and domestic violence, as well as assisting law enforcement and the State Medical Examiner’s Office with various aspects of death investigation such as obtaining postmortem fluid samples and forensic photography.

IAFN will use their standard activity evaluation for CNE. More information will be available on site.
Registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, physicians, and physician assistants are invited to attend this two day, hands-on clinical skills training. Participants will develop and enhance their clinical practice skills in the care of adult victims of sexual assault. This training will simulate the patient care setting and include hands-on activities, such as forensic photography of genital and non-genital trauma and mock patient assessments. Participants will have the opportunity to attain or maintain specific skills such as performing detailed oral and ano-genital assessments, speculum examination techniques, proper evidence collection, integrity, and maintaining chain of custody under the guidance of experienced preceptors.
Registration is free to health care providers from IHS, Tribal, and Urban Indian health care facilities. Health care providers from referral facilities that serve American Indian or Alaska Native victims of sexual assault are also eligible to attend at no cost. Registrants MUST have previously completed a 40-hour Sexual Assault Examiner course. In some instances, this requirement may be waived upon request.
