Target Audience:

Statement of Need/Program Overview:
Most healthcare providers are not familiar with neurobiology of trauma. This webinar will provide understanding of how trauma affects emotions, behaviors and memory.
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- List and describe the neuroanatomical structures and be physiological processes involved in traumatic events.
- Describe which of these structures and processes are activated during a sexual assault
- List and define the neuroanatomical structures involved in memory process and how those structures are affected by trauma.
- Explain how common interviewing techniques, such as REID may be inadvisable with victims of trauma.
- Identify specific implications for practice.

Rebecca Campbell, PhD
Dr. Rebecca Campbell is a William J. Beal Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Michigan State University. She holds a Ph.D. in community psychology with a concentration in statistics, also from Michigan State University. For the past 25 years, she has been conducting community-based, participatory research on violence against women and children, with an emphasis on sexual assault. For the past four years, she has been collaborating with stakeholders in Detroit, MI to address their problem of untested sexual assault kits (SAKs).
